Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Route Features & Torean Valley

What makes the Torean Valley route unique compared to Senaru?

Torean is famous for its dramatic "Jurassic Park" scenery. Instead of standard jungle trails, you trek along steep canyon walls, pass giant waterfalls like Penimbungan Waterfall, cross mountain rivers, and walk through lush rainforest valleys.

Is the Torean route safe for all hikers?

Yes, provided you are guided by experienced professionals. The trail has narrow sections along cliff edges, but safety metal railings and handropes are installed in key areas. It is best suited for trekkers who are comfortable with moderate heights.

Why start in Sembalun and finish in Torean?

Starting in Sembalun places you much closer to the 3,726m summit for the Day 2 morning climb. Finishing via Torean ensures you never repeat a trail, giving you a 100% unique cross-mountain traverse.

Summit Push & Acclimatization

Does the 4D3N schedule help with summit success?

Yes! Spreading the trek over 4 days gives your body better recovery time, especially after the summit attack on Day 2. Having Day 3 as a relaxed lake day prevents extreme physical exhaustion.

What happens if I cannot reach the summit on Day 2?

If you feel unwell or exhausted during the 02:30 AM summit push, you can safely turn back to Sembalun Rim camp with a dedicated guide or porter, rest, and rejoin the group for the lake descent later that morning.

Luggage, Transfers & Logistics

Where do we leave our heavy suitcases during the trek?

All non-trekking travel bags are stored securely free of charge at our basecamp office in Senaru. They will be waiting for you when you finish on Day 4.

Where can we be dropped off after finishing in Torean on Day 4?

Our private transport service can take you anywhere in Lombok, such as Bangsal Harbor (for boats to the Gili Islands), Senggigi, Kuta Lombok, or Lombok International Airport (LOP).

What time do we finish the trek on Day 4?

You will usually finish at Torean Village between 01:30 PM and 02:30 PM. After a fresh shower at basecamp, transfers to Bangsal take around 1.5 hours, while transfers to Kuta or the Airport take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.

Porters, Food & Camping Setup

What do porters carry versus what I carry?

Porters carry all heavy camping gear (tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, toilet tent), cooking equipment, food, and water. You only carry a light daypack (20-30L) with personal clothing, warm layers, camera, and water bottle.

Can I hire a personal porter for my backpack?

Yes, dedicated personal porters can be hired for $25 USD per day to carry your personal backpack (up to 20 kg) across the entire 4-day traverse.

Are dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free) accommodated?

Yes! Our trekking chefs prepare fresh hot meals on-site and can easily cater to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, or allergy-specific dietary needs upon request during booking.
